These proteins retain water in the outer layers of skin, improve the barrier function of skin not to loose this gained water, and thus the skin's physiological process of moisturizing is restored: skin is protected from desiccating. Moreover, through its antioxidant capacities, it protects skin from the damaging effect caused by free radicals.
